Job Racing Qualifies
Second for ALMS Finale
Monterey,
California – Alex
Job Racing qualified second today in GT2 for the final round
of the American Le Mans Series to be run at Mazda Raceway Laguna
Seca tomorrow afternoon.
Mike Rockenfeller
took the number 23/Alex Job Racing/Bell Microproducts/Porsche
996 to the 2.2-mile, 11-turn road course for qualifying, in an
attempt to back up his GT2 class leading time in the morning
practice session. The young German managed to post a time of 1:24.140,
with an average speed of ?. The effort equals the team’s
best qualifying effort of the year, second at Road America.
Mike Rockenfeller
was satisfied with his qualifying run. “I
gave it all I had today. We were able to improve the car
between this mornings practice and the qualifying session, so that
helps. I really didn’t have anything for the pole. My
laps were fast, I took it a little too deep into the last corner
on my last attempt, but that time would not have put us on the
pole. We have a solid car for the race and we want to close
out the season with a win.”
Marcel Tiemann
is getting reacquainted with the track. “I
am improving every session. I know the track from when I
was here with Mercedes a few years back. The grip level
of the track with the dirt that comes on takes some getting used
to, but the faster turns have a little bank to them so they catch
you and give you confidence. We struggled a little with the
car yesterday, but the team was able to work through that and we
were really good this morning. Mike did a great job in
qualifying and we will have a first row starting position for the
race.”
“Mike did a great job in qualifying,” said Alex
Job, team owner. “The Ferrari is nearly a GT1 car. The
team has taken our usual measured approach to setting up the car. Mike
and Marcel have done a good job in providing the feedback that
has shown on the time sheet. Going away from the first row
tomorrow, matches our best qualifying effort of the season. With
the season we have had, Mike, Marcel and the team are motivated
to get one more win on Saturday.”
The season finale from Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca will be televised
live on the Speed Channel starting at 5:30 p.m. ET.
