Alex
Job Racing Third
in ALMS Finale
Monterey,
California – Alex
Job Racing finished third this evening in GT2 in the final round
of the American Le Mans Series run at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
Mike Rockenfeller
started the number 23/Alex Job Racing/Bell Microproducts/Porsche
996 from the front row, on the strength of his excellent qualifying
effort yesterday. The young German passed the pole sitting
Ferrari into turn one and then was hit by the same car two turns
later, sending him back to sixth. By lap eight Rockenfeller
was able to make his way back up to second and then assumed the
lead on lap 62.
Rockenfeller
turned the Bell Microproducts Porsche over the Marcel Tiemann
on lap 65. Tiemann was able to immediately gap the
second place Ferrari by nine-seconds while leading up to the races
third caution period. On the restart of that same caution
period, Tiemann had contact with a P1 and GT2 car going into turn
six, which caused a flat tire sending the German to the pits. Rockenfeller
completed the run and brought the car home in third for the team’s
third podium finish of the year.
Mike Rockenfeller
was looking for a win today. “I
had a good start and passed the Ferrari into turn one and then
I must have made him mad because he shoved me off in turn three. I
was able to get back to the front and turn the car over to Marcel. The
team deserved better today.”
Marcel Tiemann
knew the team had the speed to win. “We
could have won instead of getting third. Mike did a great
job to get us into the lead. During my stint I was able to
stay ahead of the Ferrari and the car was very consistent over
a long run. We were looking to go to the end out front when
I got sandwiched between a P1 and the BMW going up in the Cork
Screw and the result was a flat tire for me, and third for the
team.”
“Our terrible luck continued right up to the last race,” said
Alex Job, team owner. “We missed two stops under
yellow by just one lap. Marcel had the contact on the restart
and that caused us to stop under green. The yellow came out
the next lap and the two cars that finished ahead of us were able
to pit under that caution, putting us back nearly 40-seconds and
that was our day. Again we had the car to run to the front
and lead the race and contact halted our chance for a win, frustrating.”
