Alex Job Racing Ready for New Circuit in Utah

Tavares, Florida  – Alex Job Racing is looking forward to running round five of the American Le Mans Series at the new Miller Motorsport Park just outside of Salt Lake City.

The ultra-competitive GT2 class has witnessed four different winners in as many races.  The Alex Job Racing team is looking to be the first repeat winner of the 2006 season this weekend at the new Miller Motorsport Park.

The track, located about one-half-hour from Salt Lake City, boasts a 4.5-mile, 24-turn flat road course.  The track, the longest on the schedule, will take AJR pilots Mike Rockenfeller and Klaus Graf a little more time to learn in their number 23/Alex Job Racing/Bell Microproducts/Porsche RSR.

Mike Rockenfeller likes long race tracks.  “I like to run at the longer race tracks.  The eight-plus mile Nordscliefe in Germany is my all time favorite.  Long circuits tend to spread the field and you do not have the prototypes coming up on you every couple of laps.  You also have the opportunity to get in the lead and get those prototypes between you and the other GT2 class cars and possibly put them a lap down.  Miller looks very interesting from the drivers view.  It has nearly every kind of corner and should make for a great race.  The GT2 class is still unsettled, we need to be the first car to win twice and we will look to do that this weekend.”

Klaus Graf is looking forward to the challenge of the new Miller circuit.  “I am sure Greg Fordahl, our engineer, will try to get as much information as possible before the event. We’ll look at the estimate corner and top speeds to determine the gear ratios.  For the setup we need to find a starting point, easiest would to be to look at the surface, whether the track is smooth or bumpy and try to compare it with other existing race tracks that we have visited. The GT2 championship is very tough this year. We had the chance for good results in all of the races, but some tough luck stopped us from being further up in the points.  We still have six races to go and we still have a chance for the championship. Having said that, I think we need to focus on every race lap, every weekend.

“We are going from the shortest track on the schedule at Lime Rock to the longest,” said Alex Job.  “We need a good run at Miller this weekend.  We fell back at Lime Rock with our accident in turn one and we need to bounce back in the points chase.  The GT2 class is far from being decided.  No one has been able to put together consistent runs so far, so this is the time we need to maintain our poise on the track and run clean and fast.”

Rockenfeller and Graf are currently seventh in drivers points, 40 out of the lead, with Alex Job Racing fifth in the team standings.

Round five of the American Le Mans Series to be run at Miller Motorsport Park will be televised on CBS, tape delayed, on Sunday, July 16th at 2:00 p.m. ET.
