Job Racing Finishes
Fourth in GT2 in Utah
Tooele,
Utah – Alex Job Racing finished
fourth in round five of the American Le Mans Series run Miller
Motorsport Park this evening.
Mike Rockenfeller
started the number 23/Alex Job Racing/Bell Microproducts/Porsche
RSR from the last row of the GT2 grid due to a being too low,
one-half of a millimeter, in post qualifying technical inspection. The
young Germany was able to move through the field and into third
place by lap 12. By lap 33 Rockenfeller had made up the prerace
deficit to reach second place.
On lap 35 Klaus
Graf took over the Porsche in second place and proceeded to gap
the number 31 car in third by some 11 seconds. At
the two-hour-and-twenty-minute mark the first full caution flew
bunching up the field. On lap 58 the field was back under
green with Graf being pressured for second. On lap 61 going
into turn seven the veteran road racer went off and returned to
the circuit in fourth position, just missing the podium.
Mike Rockenfeller
had a great run to the front. “I
had a strong car and we were able to drive up to second place. I
really didn’t have any drama during my stint and was able
to manage my tires throughout my 35 laps. The guys did a
great pit stop to get Klaus out ahead of the 31 car and keep our
position in second place. We really didn’t have anything
for the Ferrari, but we had a solid second until he went off.”
Klaus Graf
experienced heavy debris on his tires during the caution. “Mike
gave me a good car. The Michelin tires were wonderful and
I was able build up a gap to third place. During the race
a lot debris came onto the track and under the caution period I
could feel that I had a lot of pick-up on my tires. I
was heading into turn seven aggressively and my front tires washed
out and I went off. It is disappointing for the team; we
did a great job to come back from last place.”
“We had a solid second place,” said Alex Job. “We
cautioned Klaus on about lap 54 that there was a lot of cars going
off of the track and bringing debris on the racing surface. When
the yellow came Klaus had a lot of garbage on his tires and subsequently
went off in turn seven. The Ferrari had everyone covered,
but we were in a position to take second place and go onto Portland
with maximum points where I hope that the playing field will be
a little more level.”
This evenings Miller Motorsport Park race will be televised on
CBS tomorrow, Sunday, July 16th at 2:00 p.m. ET.
Round six of
the American Le Mans Series will be run at Portland International
Raceway next weekend, Saturday, July 22nd.
