Alex Job Racing Qualifies Seventh in GT2 at Mid-Ohio

Lexington, Ohio – Alex Job Racing qualified seventh today in GT2 for round three of the American Le Mans Series to be run and Mid-Ohio Sportscar Course tomorrow. Mike Rockenfeller nursed an ailing car to post a time that will see he and co-driver Klaus Graf start from the fourth row in GT2.

During the practice just prior to the qualifying session drivers Mike Rockenfeller and Klaus Graf reported the car down on power. In the 20-minute session that sets the grid for the two-hour-and-forty-five-minute race, Rockenfeller was only able to put up a time of 1:24.184 with an average speed of 96 mph. During the young Germans fast lap he reported a drop in oil pressure and pitted the number 23/Alex Job Racing/ Bell Microproducts/Porsche RSR. The time recorded is two seconds slower than the duos best practice lap of the weekend.

Mike Rockenfeller is disappointed with the qualifying effort, but knows tomorrow will be a better day. “We ran lap times in practice that put us in the top two in each session. We have the speed and we have a good handling car, but I just noticed that our other GT2 competitors were pulling away in the power parts of the circuit, so I knew that we had a problem. We will make the necessary repairs and be ready for the race tomorrow. We started dead last in Houston and were able to win; we will have to do the same tomorrow.”

Klaus Graf is getting to grips with the new Mid-Ohio track surface. “The track has been changing all weekend. The temperature goes up and down and that really changes the grip level. With the rain it washes the rubber off and that also affects the grip. Mike and I have been able to run laps in the low 23s and high 22s so we are very much on the pace. Qualifying could have gone better, but it is good that we found out that problem in qualifying and not the race. We will be ready to make our run from the back tomorrow like we did just seven eight days ago in Houston .”

“We had three really good rounds of practice,” said Alex Job. “Mike and Klaus were feeling out the new surface and the crew was responding with the correct changes to keep us toward the top of the time sheet. Qualifying is a little disheartening. We seem to be making a habit of starting from the back of the grid, but we will plug in a new Porsche motor and be ready to make final adjustments for the race in the warm-up. Houston worked out well from the back of the field; we just have to have the same focus and motivation tomorrow.”

Round three of the American Le Mans Series will be run at Mid-Ohio Sportscar Course on Sunday, May 21 st . The race will be televised on CBS starting at 1:00 p.m. EST.
