Alex Job Racing DNFs at Mid-Ohio
Lexington , Ohio – Alex Job Racing did not finish round three of the American Le Mans Series today at Mid-Ohio Sportscar Course. The GT2 competitor ran into problems on the pace lap which proved terminal for the race.
Mike Rockenfeller was behind the wheel for the start; he was able to make the first of two pace laps when on the second he noticed a problem with the shifting of the number 23/Alex Job Racing/ Bell Microproducts/Porsche RSR. He pitted the car and the team immediately took the car back to the garage for repair. The resulting problem was a weld breaking that holds shift cable to the transmission. The repair could not be made in time for the drivers to complete 70% of the race distance to score points.
Mike Rockenfeller was dejected by the problem. “In the morning warm-up the car was fine, the line-up lap for the grid no problem. On the second pace lap the shift lever went back about five inches too far, I tried the shift down and again went five-inches too far. We were looking forward to going after two wins in row here this weekend, but we now we have to wait until July.”
Klaus Graf will have to wait until Lime Rock to make up ground in GT2. “It is tough luck to have this happen. This is a really funny failure, one I have never seen before. By the looks of the race pace, we would have been right up at the front. Our car, this weekend, was particularly good on old tires and Mike and I were motivated to try to back-up our win in Houston .”
“It is tough when you can't even make it to the green flag.” said Alex Job “The crew tried to make the fix, but we just were not able to get the car back out in time to make 70% distance which is required to score points. We were on the top step of the podium in Houston , now we are on the trailer before the checker.”
The series will take its yearly June sabbatical and pickup again on July 1st at Lime Rock Park in Connecticut .
