Ruby Tuesday Championship Racing Team Takes Momentum to Barber

Tavares, Florida  --  The Ruby Tuesday Championship Racing Team is headed to Barber Motorsport Park for round 11 of the Grand American Rolex Series presented by Crown Royal Reserve Porsche 250 to be run at the track located just outside of Birmingham, Alabama on Sunday, July 30th.

The 2.38-mile, 16-turn track is a narrow circuit that will favor a car that starts at the front of the field.  The team tested at the track two weeks ago and is looking forward to getting back to the winners circle.

The Ruby Tuesday Championship Racing Team will have to work with some performance adjustments handed down since the last race which includes an additional 25 lbs., bringing the cars weight to 2,250 lbs., with a slight increase in revs.

Patrick Long handled the testing two weeks ago.  “It was my first visit to Barber.  My initial thoughts are that there are a lot of elevation changes and the straights are fairly brief.  The track is very technical and gets narrow in some places.  The layout is twisty and has some long radius corners, which should favor our car as it transitions well from the braking zone into turn-in.  Traffic will be an issue as some of the GT cars can be as fast as we are in the slower corners.  It will be good to get back behind the wheel of the DP car after almost a month off.”

Mike Rockenfeller will visit the Alabama track for the first time.  “The team has done the basic setup work for Barber at the test a couple of weeks ago.  Patrick really seemed to like the circuit.  It will be my first visit, studying the layout it looks really challenging.  I will have to get used to the site lines around the track with all of the elevation changes, but it looks like a fairly simple place to learn.  We had a good run at Daytona and we are hungry for another win.”

“We were able to put together a good run at Daytona and we will be looking to carry that momentum to the end of the season,” said Alex Job, team owner.  “We took the opportunity to test at Barber two weeks ago as the team has never raced there before.  The team put in a lot of quality laps, Patrick did the heavy lifting as he had been to the track before, so we should be able to unload with a good car.  Last year the race came down to gas mileage, similar to Daytona.  We will have to be on our toes with strategy and run a clean race around a narrow track.”

The Ruby Tuesday Championship Racing Team is currently seventh in the battle for the team championship.  Long and Rockenfeller are seventh in the drivers point standings, 70 out of the lead in the Daytona Prototype category.

Round 11 of the Grand American Rolex series from Barber Motorsport Park will be televised live on Speed Channel starting at 3:00 p.m. ET, Sunday, July 30th.
