Alex Job Racing Finishes Eighth at Mosport

Bowmanville, Canada  – Alex Job Racing finished eighth in today’s running of round eight of the American Le Mans Series at Mosport International Raceway.

Under clearing skies from the remnants of tropical storm Ernesto, Marcel Tiemann pulled away from the grid in the number 23/Bell Microproducts/Alex Job Racing/Porsche from dead last on the field due to teammate Mike Rockenfeller missing practice on the weekend.

Marcel Tiemann was quick to make up six positions in the opening laps of the two-hour-and-forty-five-minute race.   Tiemann navigated early race carnage and diced with a Ferrari for most of his stint.  The Ferrari tried an optimistic pass in the final turn on lap 49, getting by the German and then ran Tiemann to the wall, but he was able to keep the position going into turn one.  Tiemann then turned over to Rockenfeller at the halfway point in the race.

Rockenfeller joined the fray in fifth place, but had to come back to the pits with an ill handling car.  The Alex Job Racing crew diagnosed the problem as a broken right rear shock which was damaged as a result of the Ferrari contact just a few laps prior.  The repair cost the team five laps sealing their eighth place finish.

Marcel Tiemann had a competitive day.  “It really felt good to get in the fight at the front of the field.  I was able to keep the black Ferrari behind me and chase down the Petersen car.  The Ferrari tried a pass on me in the last turn where there just wasn’t room.  He then tried to keep me behind him by taking me to the wall, but I kept the position and he received a stop-and-go for his move.  Unfortunately the contact resulted in a broken damper for Mike.”

Mike Rockenfeller had a difficult start to his stint.  “When I got into the car I thought it was just the cold tires that were affecting the handling, then I went into turn two and felt the car moving around and the tire was rubbing on the fender, I knew it was more than cold tires.  The team changed the damper and the car was perfect, we were too far behind to make a difference at that point, disappointing after traveling all night to make the race.”

“Marcel really looked strong early,” said Holly Job, team owner.  “Marcel was making his way through the field and improved from our tenth place start to run as high as fourth.  The GT2 front runners all had problems; we missed an opportunity today to have, at least, a solid podium finish or even a possible win.  The contact with the Ferrari was ridiculous, they got a stop-and-go; we got eighth place.”

Round nine of the American Le Mans Series will be the 10-hour Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta on September 30th.
