Alex
Job Racing Trio Ready
for Petit Le Mans
Farnbacher Joins Tiemann and Liddell in
#23
Tavares,
Florida – Alex
Job Racing drivers Marcel Tiemann and Robin Liddell will be joined
by newcomer Dominik Farnbacher for round nine of the American
Le Mans Series, the traditional 10-hour Petit Le Mans, to be
run at Road Atlanta on September 30th.
Farnbacher
will be sitting in for Mike Rockenfeller, who will be driving
the Porsche LMP2 car at Petit. Farnbacher is a
Carrera Cup veteran as well as a Rolex 24 Hour at Daytona winner.
Rejoining the
team will be Scotland’s own Robin Liddell. Season
regular Marcel Tiemann and the Alex Job team are thirsty for a
strong finish following a very challenging season, according to
AJR standards.
The team has
a rich history at the 2.54-mile, 12-turn Road Atlanta circuit. AJR
has posted four wins in the now traditional running of the Petit
Le Mans including 2004, 2003, 2002 and 1999.
Dominick Farnbacher will make is second start in the ALMS next
week. “It is an honor for me to drive with
Alex’s team. Their reputation is well known around
the world in sportscars for being a top team. I raced at
Sebring with my father’s team and we didn’t finish,
we had a gear box problem eight hours into the race. I have
been to Road Atlanta testing in one of our 911s. I know where
to go around there so it won’t be totally new to me. The
circuit is very fast and a couple of blind turns, that requires
a very good car and a lot of driver confidence. I think
we have a very good chance to make the podium.”
Marcel Tiemann
ran with AJR for the first time in last year’s
Petit. “It was my first time driving a Porsche GT3
RSR. So for me it was a completely new experience. I had
to learn how to drive the car, since it is quiet different to other
racecars I drove before. If you want to be fast with this
car, you have to consistently drive it all the time otherwise
it is hard to push for the last bit that you need to win. Like
most of the tracks in the states, Road Atlanta has a great character,
that most of the European tracks have lost a few exceptions like
the old Nurburgring and Spa. The elevation and combination of different corner-types makes
this track special. We will have to stay on the lead Lap.
Try to use the yellows to gain a lap, don't make mistakes
on the track and in the pits and we should be able to win.”
Robin Liddell
has a lot of experience around the Road Atlanta circuit. “I raced there in '03, '04, '05. My best
finish was in '04 in the LMP2 class when I won in the Lola Judd.
I love the track at Road Atlanta, it is one of the great natural
road courses in the US and Worldwide. I have a particularly fond
memory from there early in '05 when I battled wheel to wheel with
the 23 car for 40 minutes to win the GT2 class in the Panoz and
took the lap record which had stood from 2001 set by JJ Lehto in
the M3 GTR BMW. For me, it is important to be up in
the top two or three for the first two or three hours, as
there are usually a couple of early safety cars and it is easy
to lose a lap early on if you are not at the front. Normally the
race settles down a little about half-way. From there it
is a question of being neat and tidy with traffic and the prototypes
as well as having a good strategy.”
“We will definitely miss Mike next weekend, but he has more
than earned an opportunity to drive the Porsche LMP2 car,” said
Alex Job, team owner. “Petit Le Mans has always
been a good race for us, we have four wins since the race has been
known as the Petit Le Mans as well as nine podium finishes. So
far this season has been one of our most frustrating as a team. The
early win at Houston was our highlight, but that was only the second
race. We were on the podium at Road America and were looking
like we could follow that up with another strong finish at Mosport
until contact resulted in a broken damper. The team is motivated
to turn around our season in the last two races. Petit would
be a good place to post our second win of the season.”
Round nine
of the American Le Mans Series’ Petit Le Mans
to be run at Road Atlanta will be televised live on Speed Channel,
Saturday, September 30th starting at 11:30 a.m. ET.
