Alex Job Racing Qualifies 10th  in GT2 for Petit Le Mans

Braselton, Georgia  – Alex Job Racing driver Robin Liddell drove the number 23/Alex Job Racing/Bell Microproducts/Porsche 911 RSR to a 10th place starting position in GT2 for tomorrow’s running of the 10-hour Petit Le Mans, to go off at Road Atlanta.

The team made a change to the number 23 Porsche following this morning’s practice session, going to softer front springs.  The resulting effect upset the handling of the car causing Robin Liddell not to better his faster practice times of the weekend.

The team will have an uphill battle to up hold its rich history at the 2.54-mile, 12-turn Road Atlanta circuit.  AJR has posted four wins in the now traditional running of the Petit Le Mans in 2004, 2003, 2002 and 1999.

Robin Liddell is disappointed with the effort.  “We weren’t able to better our practice times.  In qualifying you can at least go a half-second faster.  The traction of the car was good, the entry and mid-corner was unsettling due to the spring change and I just couldn’t get up the revs to get it off of the corner and down the straights.  We came in to put some wing in it, but that is just a band-aid that wouldn’t be able to get us the half-second we needed to get further up in the field.  We have some work to do in the morning warm-up and of course more in the race.”

Marcel Tiemann is getting more comfortable in the car with every session.  “We have been struggling a little with the setup all weekend.  We have had no real incidents on the track, but we still have some work to do on the handling.  Since Mosport I have been getting more comfortable with the car and as a result am able to put in consistent lap times.  I would like to top our second place finish from last year.”

Dominick Farnbacher is pleased with his performance so far this weekend.  “I am used to the track now, I was able to put in some good laps last night and actually led the field in the wet conditions.  I had to familiarize myself to the tires and feel of the ALMS spec setup, but I am pretty much there now.  I still have a few corners where I can make up some time, but the race will give me plenty of opportunity to work on those areas.  The team is doing a good job and we will be ready to have a competitive race.”

“Our qualifying effort was disappointing,” said Alex Job, team owner.   “Our one constant this year has been Mike Rockenfeller who would handle the bulk of the setup work making it easier for the drivers we have been shuffling through the seat.  We don’t have that this weekend and we are suffering. Not to take anything away from our drivers this weekend, but when you jump into to these cars for just a few races without any testing for a new driver it takes a few races to get up to speed.  As a result we are making changes to the car that may not be taking us in the right direction.  We have some work to do in the morning warm-up, but the three guys we have behind the wheel will take us back up towards the front in the race.”

Round nine of the American Le Mans Series’ Petit Le Mans to be run at Road Atlanta will be televised live on Speed Channel, tomorrow, Saturday, September 30th starting at 11:30 a.m. ET.
