Job Racing Finishes
Third in GT2 at Road America
Elk Hart
Lake, Wisconsin – Alex
Job Racing finished third in round seven of the American Le Mans
Series Generac 500 run at Road America this afternoon. The
third place finish is the team’s second podium of the season,
the first being a win at Houston.
Mike Rockenfeller
started the number 23/Bell Microproducts/Alex Job Racing/Porsche
911 RSR from the first row. The young
German was able to takeover the number one position during the
first caution period. On lap 33 Rockenfeller handed the car
over to teammate Marcel Tiemann, the elder German returned to the
battle in fourth position.
Tiemann was
able to hold fourth place, then on lap 57 he experienced a puncture
going into turn six, he had to nurse the Porsche around almost
three miles to the pits. During the pit stop Rockenfeller
took the wheel back over and had a rocket restart on the last caution
to pass the number 61 car, from some nine seconds back, to take
the last podium position.
Mike Rockenfeller
was able to lead a handful of laps on the day. “I
had a good start at the beginning, but as the stint went on I got
progressively worse over steer and could not drive as aggressive
as I would have liked. We had hoped for a wave-bye on that
first yellow while our competitors pitted, but the number seven
car never came to the pits. On my second stint I was able
to get a really good restart at the end and pass the 61 car for
third.”
Marcel Tiemann
was perplexed by his drive. “I am not
sure what happened during my stint. We had radio problems
early and then I was not able to turn the lap times that I did
earlier in the week. In practice I was doing high-nines and
was hoping to do tens in the race, we will have to look at the
data. Then on my 24th lap I went up the hill and into turn
six and the tire went down. I was able to get it back around
and into the pits without any damage. Mike did a great job
at the end to get us on the podium.”
“We had a really funny race today,” said Alex Job,
team owner. “We were hoping that the number seven
car would have pitted under that first caution, that would have
put us up a lap up on the GT2 field. Marcel was having problems
with his lap times as well as radio communication issues. We
will take a hard look at the data to see what happened. Mike
had a great restart on the last yellow and passed about a half-dozen
cars to get us up on the podium for only second time this season.”
Round eight of the American Le Mans Series will be run at Mosport
International Raceway on Sunday, September 3rd.
