Alex Job Racing Qualifies Fourth in GT2 at Sebring
Sebring , Florida - Alex Job Racing's Mike Rockenfeller qualified the number 23/Alex Job Racing/ Bell Microproducts/Porsche 911 RSR in fourth position for Saturday's running of the 55 th Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring.
Rockenfeller was able to post a time of 2:03.834 and speed of 106 mph good enough for a second row starting position in GT2. The session was not without controversy. At the 11-minute mark a red flag stopped qualifying, with the AJR car second on the grid. The series race director made an unprecedented decision to add 10-minutes to the qualifying session allowing those cars that did not take laps prior to the red flag, to partake in the action.
Rockenfeller, the young German Porsche factory driver, has been working diligently with his co-drivers and the team on the 911s setup. "We had a couple of good laps, there is a little bit of time left, but probably not for the pole. We are the best of the Porsches. We made a tire choice in qualifying, which may not have agreed very well with the heat in the track. We have still have some work to do on the setup tonight and tomorrow. But I am confident we will have a good car for the race on Saturday."
Klaus Graf is coming to grips with his new seasons ride. "The weekend is going pretty good for me, except for my spin yesterday. The car is a lot different than the Trans-Am car I drove last year, but Sebring is familiar and a few more laps and I should be just fine. I have been analyzing the data and Mike has been a big help as he has a lot of laps in these cars. We are taking a long view at the season and the championship, but we would like to give Alex and the team their seventh win here at Sebring."
Graham Rahal has run limited laps this weekend, but is positive for a good result on Saturday. "I have been focusing on getting used to the car and how it handles around this track - a good bit different than an open wheel car. The deal came together kind of late so we didn't have the opportunity to test, so we have been doing that work this week since we arrived on Tuesday. The car is harsh over the bumps, but that seems to be the fast around here. I am looking forward to getting some significant laps tonight."
"We had a good amount of work in the practice sessions to get the car on pace with the new Ferrari and greatly improved Panoz cars," said Alex Job. "In qualifying we were second, when the official time expired, however the series decided to go counter to past practice and how we interpret the rule book and add additional time to the qualifying clock, I think that is wrong! A couple of teams chose to stay in the pits at the beginning of the session and were caught out when the red flag stopped the session; it seems we are favoring the home team."
The 12 Hours of Sebring will be televised in segments live on the Speed Channel starting at 10:30 a.m. EST on Saturday, March 18 th .
