Mid-Ohio Poses Challenges for Alex Job Racing
Tavares,
Florida -- Alex Job Racing is ready to take on the challenges of
Mid-Ohio and some new competition in round two of the American Le
Mans Series and Mid-Ohio Sportscar Course on June 27. The Florida
based team has yet to post a victory at Mid-Ohio in its two races
at the 2.25-mile 13-turn undulating track.
Following
a nearly three-month break in the ALMS schedule, Alex Job Racing
has had plenty of time to improve on the Porsche 911 GT3 RSRs following
their one-two victory in the GT class at Sebring. "We have
had a chance to take a look at our data from Sebring and make some
small improvements on the cars. We are coming up on a stretch of
races, six in ten weeks, so we really won't have much time to make
significant improvements to the cars with the extensive travel ahead
of us." said Alex Job.
Mid-Ohio
stands as one of only two tracks on the calendar that the team has
not won at, the other being Lime Rock. "We have had a difficult
time at Mid-Ohio for some reason. We have had small things happen
that put us back, so we are ready to win here. We will also see
a renewed Panoz GT effort and a few more Porsche entries at this
race," continued Job.
Timo
Bernhard, driver of the number 23 McKenna/mail2web/Alex Job Racing
Porsche 911 RSR GT3 finished second at Mid-Ohio in 2002. "I
really like Mid-Ohio, it is like some of the great tracks of Europe
with rolling terrain. We have the right tools to win at Mid-Ohio,
we just have to avoid little mistakes on the track and in the pits.
The race is not very long, so we have to be precise," said
Bernhard. Timo was not idle during the break in the schedule he
competed in the Nurburgring 24 Hour race, where he placed third.
Co-driver
of the number 23 car, Jorg Bergmeister had a very successful and
scary break, he won the GT class in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and
was hit by a car. "I was training on my mountain bike and was
hit by a car, I actually flew off the bike, onto the hood of the
car and broke the windshield with my head. I was cared for by the
Porsche medical staff at Le Mans and I only had some discomfort
on Thursday and Friday. During the race everything was fine and
a win helps to heal a lot of wounds." Jorg is ready to return
to the ALMS series and race. In Sebring he was not able to complete
any race laps due to illness. "I am ready for Mid-Ohio! Our
new GT3 RSR has increased downforce since our last visit there and
will help in the very quick turn-one and through the Esses. We will
need a good race setup to get through the off-camber turns where
we tend to oversteer. Timo and I will have to find the right compromise
between having an aggressive car for the beginning of the stint
and one that is still good at the end."
New
comers to the AJR stable Romain Dumas and Marc Lieb driving the
number 24 McKenna/mail2web/Alex Job Racing Porsche 911 RSR GT3 will
visit Mid-Ohio for the first time. Both drivers competed at Le Mans
with Dumas finishing third and Lieb came home in twelfth.
"I
try to get as much information as possible from people who have
been there, like engineers and fellow drivers as well as study the
track map to get familiar with the layout," said Marc Lieb.
"The Mid-Ohio circuit looks very challenging with many corners
and a lot of up and down sections, I like that! I don't think we
need help setup wise. With the brand new cars I am not sure that
Timo and Jorg's history there will be much help, Romain and I will
have to concentrate on our own setup."
Round
two of the American Le Mans Series will be June 27 at the Mid-Ohio
Sports Car Course and televised on CBS Sports starting at 1:00 p.m
EST.
