7-3-04 -- For Immediate Release

Dumas First Career GT Pole for AJR

Lime Rock, Conn. -- Alex Job Racing driver Romain Dumas drove his number 24 McKenna/mail2web/Alex Job Racing/Porsche 911 GT3 RSR to the GT pole position for Monday's running of round three of the American Le Mans Series. Teammate Jorg Bergmeister qualified the number 23 car in third.

Team strategy had the two go out and run four laps, three timed. On his first lap of the 1.54-mile Lime Rock circuit the Frenchman was able to set a time of 54.659 and a speed of 101 mph to start from the front of the GT field. "I made just four laps with the first being the fastest. It wasn't a perfect lap, but it was good enough for the pole. It is great to get my first pole in only the third race with the team. Lucas Luhr was pushing at the end of the session and had us worried, but my lap time held up. This is a good beginning to the weekend for Marc and I after a tough Mid-Ohio just six days ago." Dumas' teammate Marc Lieb will celebrate his 24th birthday tomorrow.

With the same strategy Bergmeister elected to make a small change to the Gurney wing on his Porsche which caused increased oversteer for the qualifying session. "We tried a slight change to the car and it didn't quite give us the result we were looking for. We gained more speed down the straight and then the oversteer in the corner canceled the gain. We wanted to save our tires for the race so, third is not a bad place to start." Co-driver Timo Bernhard is the current GT points leader.

This pole marks the thirteenth consecutive number one starting position in GT for Alex Job Racing. "I am very pleased for Romain. It his first pole and the first pole for his crew chief Kerry Foote as well. He and Mark were able to get down to business at a new track and made it happen for us," said Job. "Jorg did a good job, we thought we had him in second until Lucas separated our cars in the last moments of the session. We are looking forward to a competitive race but I think the weather is going to play a role come Monday."

Round three of the American Le Mans Series will be July 5th and televised live on Speed Channel starting at 3:00 p.m. EST.
