AJR Finishes Third and Tenth in GT at Lime Rock
Lime
Rock, Conn. - Alex Job Racing had to fight back from an early tire
change and penalty to finish the Dumas/Lieb driven number 24 McKenna/mail2web.com/Alex
Job Racing/Porsche 911 GT3 RSR in third place today at Lime Rock
Park. The number 23 car of Jorg Bergmeister and Timo Bernhard finished
in tenth.
On
the second lap of the race, rain began to fall and a number of cars
spun causing a yellow flag. The threat of rain all day made the
Alex Job Team to pit both cars and put on Michelin rain tires. This
proved to be the tough decision of the race as several GT competitors
decided to stay out and hope for it to clear - it did.
Just
10 laps later the 23 car of Bergmeister had to come back in for
slicks sending him down a lap to his GT competitors. Two laps later
teammate Dumas pitted for tires. Refueling the Dumas car, the team's
dry brake fueling unit stuck open causing a gas spill resulting
in a 20-second penalty sending the car down two laps in the GT standings.
Lieb
and Dumas staged their comeback on the track running very fast times
to makeup the deficit. The car received a wave-bye getting one lap
back and then Dumas passed the Ferrari at speed on lap 142 to make-up
the second lap. During the last laps of the race Dumas was chasing
the second place Porsche to try and take the position, but traffic
and not enough laps ended his bid just couple tenths short.
Timo
Benhard was also coming back from the early pit stop when on lap
102 going through turn-six the half-shaft broke. This turned the
last stint for Bergmeister into a nice Monday afternoon drive of
the Connecticut country side.
Romain
Dumas, #24 McKenna/mail2web.com/Alex Job Racing/Porsche 911 GT3
RSR: "We made some mistakes today. The fuel problem and the
early tire stop really put us back. When were on the track we were
running fast laps. The car really handled well we just dug to big
of a hole. In the end I needed another lap or two to pass the 45
car, but after Mid-Ohio this is a much better result for Mark and
I.
Marc
Lieb, #24 McKenna/mail2web.com/Alex Job Racing/Porsche 911 GT3 RSR:
"Unfortunately we were one of those who pitted for rains. That
proved to be the wrong decision, but it looked the rain would stay.
We ran as high as second place, but little mishaps kept us back.
It was an opportunity for me and Romain to get our first win and
it got away."
Timo
Bernhard, #23 McKenna/mail2web.com/Alex Job Racing/Porsche 911 GT3
RSR: "Looked like rain, felt like rain so we pitted for rains.
The humidity dried the track very fast when it stopped and we had
to pit for slicks. Then I had the half shaft break and we spent
14 laps in the pits to fix the car. It is too bad we just finished
out of the points and I have lost the driver's points lead."
Jorg
Bergmeister, #23 McKenna/mail2web.com/Alex Job Racing/Porsche 911
GT3 RSR: "The rain looked like it was going to stay. Boy it
dried up in a hurry and the rain tires were like driving on ice.
Hindsight we would have stayed out, that is what made the difference
today for the winners. We then had the half-shaft break and that
pretty much ended our day."
Alex
Job, team owner: "Congratulations to Ferrari. They made the
best calls on strategy and had the most breaks and they won. We
were one lap short of the next step on the podium, but Marc and
Romain really drove hard today to come back from being two laps
down at one point. The spill and penalty was like salt in the wound
for the rain tire stop and now we are in a tough points battle with
the Lizard team."
Round
four of the American Le Mans Series will be July 18th at Infineon
Speedway in Sonoma, California.
