AJR Qualifies
1 and 2 in GT at Infineon
Sonoma, Calif.--
Alex Job Racing qualified their two McKenna/ mail2web.com/Alex Job
Racing/Porsche 911 GT3 RSRs in first and second positions for Sunday's
running of round four of the American Le Mans Series race to be
run at Infineon Raceway.
The ALMS instituted
a new qualifying procedure for this round of the series
where each car gets four laps, two timed. This requires the drivers
and teams to abandon strategy and really go for it and put in a
good lap.
Romain Dumas
driving the number 24 Porsche really took to the new qualifying
procedure running a 1:34.299 with a speed of 97 mph. "I am
really happy with my qualifying run. The car was not that great
in practice, but I put in a crazy lap and was able to get the pole.
I like the new qualifying procedure, because I usually do my best
lap on the first two. The crew has been doing a great job adjusting
on the car all weekend."
Teammate Timo
Bernhard in the number 23 Porsche qualified on the rear bumper of
Dumas with a time of 1:34.520. "I had some oversteer during
the qualifying session; maybe just pushing the extra amount caused
the problem. I don't really understand it the car was really good
just 15-minutes before in practice, the team will adjust it for
the race. I think the qualifying format is ok, I was able to get
a clear lap and that is all a driver can ask for."
"Congratulations
to Romain, he did two incredible laps that were within
50,000ths of a second of each other," said Alex Job, team owner.
"Timo had a great effort as well, having both cars on the front
row is a great boost for the team. I really like the new qualifying
procedure, it is entertaining and I think exciting for the fans
as well."
This pole position
is the fourteenth consecutive for the team and Romain
Dumas' second in as many races.
Round four of
the American Le Mans Series will be July 18th and televised
live on CBS starting at 11:00 a.m. PCT and 3:00 p.m. EST.
