AJR Wins GT at Mosport
Bowmanville,
Canada - The Alex Job Racing driver team of Timo Bernhard and Jorg
Bergmeister won the GT class in round six of the American Le Mans
Series race today at Mosport Raceway. The companion car driven by
Marc Lieb and Romain Dumas finished a disappointing eleventh in
class following a crash.
After qualifying
in second Lieb started the number 24/McKenna/mail2web.com/Xybernaut/Alex
Job Racing/Porsche 911 GT3 RSR and moved into the lead after making
a spectacular pass on the outside of turn eight. Seven laps after
taking the lead the German driver was forced off line making room
for a prototype, hit a bump and ended up in the turn two wall. Lieb
was able to bring the car back to the pits and the AJR crew made
the repairs, with Dumas returning to the race 24 laps down. Lieb
was taken to the Lakeridge Health Center in Oshawa for precautionary
X-rays and released and released.
Bergmeister
started the number 23 AJR Porsche from his third place qualifying
position and began to move up, taking over second on lap 30. On
lap 52 he reported a vibration in the rear of the car and was able
to stay out for 12 additional laps to get the car in the pit window.
The AJR crew performed a full service on the GT3 RSR putting Bernhard
in the lead. Timo began to gap the GT field by nearly a half-second
per lap before stopping with 20-minutes remaining in the race for
fuel and tires.
This win makes
two in a row for the driver paring at Mosport and brings Bernhard
within four points of the overall GT driver's points lead.
Timo Bernhard,
#23 McKenna/mail2web.com/Alex Job Racing/Porsche 911 GT3 RSR: "It
was a great win for Jorg and I. Jorg drove a good first stint even
though he had a big vibration in the car. The team did an excellent
job in the pits today. I was able to get in after the pit stop and
we took the lead a few laps later. The car was really good, I could
open up a gap to second place and then conserve the tires. This
puts me back in the hunt for the championship."
Jorg Bergmeister,
#23 McKenna/mail2web.com/Alex Job Racing/Porsche 911 GT3 RSR: "There
were some great battles at the beginning today. I was hit by a prototype
in turn five and that caused a vibration in the car, I just had
to drive as hard and safe as I could to get us into the pit window.
The vibration caused my lap time to fall off, but Timo was able
to makeup time and run a great second half of the race. The team
did a great job in the pits and with the setup of the car."
Romain Dumas,
#24 McKenna/mail2web.com/Alex Job Racing/Porsche 911 GT3 RSR: "Mark
had a great start of the race, taking over the lead and then the
incident in turn two. After the repairs the car had a lot of understeer
but I was determined to complete the race. Kerry and the crew did
a great job to make the repairs. I owed it to them to get in and
drive as hard I could."
Marc Lieb, #24
McKenna/mail2web.com/Alex Job Racing/Porsche 911 GT3 RSR: "I
was going into turn two and tried to make room for a faster car
and got caught out on the bumps and understeered into the wall.
It was a pretty big hit. I brought the car into the pits and then
when I got out I felt a little ill and my neck was sore."
Alex Job, team
owner: "Marc is ok, we had him taken to Oshawa for X-rays on
his neck as he was having some discomfort. It was a very strong
day for the 23 car. Jorg and Timo did a great job, the team gave
them excellent support in the pits and it was a well deserved victory.
Romain is to be commended for soldiering on in the 24 car, he is
a true professional. This puts Timo back in the chase for the driver's
title."
Round seven
of the American Le Mans Series will be run on August 22nd at Road
America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.
