AJR on GT Pole at Road America
Elkhart
Lake, Wisconsin -- Alex Job Racing driver Jorg Bergmeister shattered
the track GT class record to put his number 23/McKenna/mail2web.com/Xybernaut/Alex
Job Racing/Porsche 911 GT3 RSR on the pole at Road America for round
seven of the American Le Mans Series race to be run tomorrow. Teammate
Marc Lieb, partnered with Romain Dumas, in the number 24 AJR Porsche
qualified a strong second.
Together
with co-driver Timo Bernhard, Bergmeister will start from the front
row of the GT grid for Sunday's two-hour and forty-five minute race.
Prior to qualifying the duos best practice time was a 2:08.365.
The lanky German was able to improve on that time by almost a second
to run a 2:07.577 and a speed of 114 mph.
"The
car was really good. I could be aggressive and drive in deep and
get it out of the turn fast," said Bergmeister. "I did
two fast laps that were very clean and virtually mistake free. The
team has done a great job all weekend with the set-up. Road America
is my favorite track in America; it reminds me of the Nordshliefe
in Germany. The last races Timo and I have really done well, we
have been able to get rid of the bad luck that plagued us early
in the season. I am sure the field will be much closer in the race."
Lieb
was the pole sitter until Bergmeister put in his incredible lap.
Marc turned a 2:08.353, again over four-tenths faster than his practice
time. "The car felt good, we made a change before qualifying
and ran much faster, Jorg just put in a crazy lap. The track is
great to drive, I really like the carrousel, and we take it very
fast in fourth gear. I also like turn thirteen under the bridge,
the road falls away and it is really fun."
"WOW!
What an impressive qualifying session by Jorg," said Alex Job,
team owner. "Our telemetry gave us a theoretical perfect lap
here of 2:07.799; I guess it is time to change our theory. Marc
did a great job to come second and that was a nice improvement over
practice. Timo and Jorg have really come on for us in these last
three races, showing their maturity. The GT field remains very close;
Peterson looks very threatening in third."
AJR
driver Timo Bernhard currently sits second in the GT driver's points
standings with 93, just four out of the lead. Alex Job Racing leads
the ALMS GT team standings by 18 and is looking for its fifth win
this year.
Round
seven of the American Le Mans Series will be August 22nd and televised
live on Speed Channel starting at 2:00 p.m. Eastern time.
