-- For Immediate Release
A Fast Lap of Road Atlanta with AJR's Timo Bernhard
Braselton,
Georgia -- Coming into turn one, I tend to have an early entry and
then downshift from sixth to fourth. The turn is kind of deceiving,
the hill looks like it will catch you, but you can get some oversteer
there so you have to be careful.
Up
the hill staying in fourth gear, into turn two, downshift to third,
run up on the inside curb getting setup for the beginning of the
esses. For the right hander at the beginning of the esses you have
to give the car a slight breathe there and then it is fourth gear
through the rest of the section.
Turn
five entry can be tricky, you have a right and then a left, in the
middle you are braking and trying to maximize your exit speed onto
the straight. You have to run up on the curbs slightly, go from
fourth gear to third and exit using the curbs on the outside.
The
entry to turn six is pretty fast because the track is banked. Turn
seven is the slowest corner on the track. You downshift to second
gear again being careful not to compromise your exit to get a good
run down the longest straight on the track. The number 23/McKenna/mail2web.com/Xybernaut/Alex
Job Racing/Porsche 911 GT3 RSR will do about 260km (162 mph) down
the straight.
Going
into 10a you have to have a feel for the brake zone as there are
no braking markers on this part of the circuit, I just go by feel.
The left hander is pretty straight forward, the right hander you
go up on the curb a little and then start looking for the right-hand
side of the bridge and shift to fourth. You have to shift again
to fifth right before the entry to twelve which just gives the car
a slight breathe to go out through the apex of the turn and up to
sixth half-way down the straight.
Petit
Le Mans will be televised live on Speed Channel starting at 11:30
a.m. with segments at 5:30 p.m. and the finish at 7:30 p.m. Eastern
time.
