AJR on GT Pole at Road Atlanta
Braselton,
Georgia -- Alex Job Racing driver Romain Dumas set a new track record
in his number 24/McKenna/mail2web.com/Xybernaut/Alex Job Racing/Porsche
911 GT3 RSR to be on the pole at Road Atlanta for round eight of
the American Le Mans Series race to be run tomorrow. Teammate Timo
Bernhard qualified in fourth position in the number 23 AJR Porsche.
Dumas
set his fast qualifying lap on the second circuit of the Road Atlanta
course. Under warm conditions, 83 degrees, the French driver put
in a time of 1:22.724 and a speed of 110 mph to start on the front
of the GT grid. This pole position is his fourth of the season.
"We had some brake problems in the morning practice and we
didn't have a chance to get them adjusted properly before qualifying
and that was a small issue. The team rebuilt the system and it is
just a matter of getting them set for the race so we can do that
tomorrow morning. My second lap was the best, but I thought it had
a little more in it so I did a fourth lap, but came up on some traffic.
I am happy with the pole; it is nice to start at the front in a
10-hour race."
Timo
Bernhard had a disappointing qualifying session setting a time of
1:23.832 four-tenths slower than his morning practice time. "We
had an issue with the car. It just felt really unbalanced, so we
have to put it on the measuring scale and see what the problem is
and get ready to race from the second row of GT tomorrow. I am confident
the team will sort it out and we will have a competitive Porsche
for the race."
"Congratulations
to Romain, four poles in as many attempts in your rookie year is
a pretty nice record," said Alex Job, team owner. "The
team did an excellent job to get the car back in shape after our
practice mishap on Sunday. Timo had a difficult session; he is usually
the driver to beat in qualifying. We will get to the bottom of the
issue and have it ready for morning practice."
AJR
driver Timo Bernhard currently leads the driver's points standings
with 113. To secure the title, Bernhard and teammates will have
to come away from Petit with a 24 point advantage. Alex Job Racing
can clinch the ALMS GT team standings by finishing one car ahead
of the pursuing second place Porsche team.
