Bernhard on GT Pole for AJR
Monterey,
California -- Alex Job Racing driver Timo Bernhard shattered the
Laguna Seca GT qualifying class record today to take pole position
for tomorrow's four-hour final round of the American Le Mans Series.
Teammate Marc Lieb qualified a close second with a time of 1:25.768
also under the track record.
Bernhard
wasted no time getting to the pole. He went out early in the session
and on his second lap set a time of 1:25.586 and a speed of 94 mph.
This is over a half second faster than the previous qualifying record
of 1:26.1. "We went out early as everyone else seemed to be
waiting. I was able to get a good clean lap without traffic and
turn a good time. The setup of the car was right on, the temperature
today is a little cooler so everything fell into place. Jorg and
I plan on doing business as usual for the race tomorrow."

Porsche GT3 RSR will start right next to his AJR teammate in second
on the GT grid. "I took two laps to bring the tires up to temperature
which may have been one too many. On my third lap I had a good run
with no traffic and no drama and was able to put in a fast time.
Timo had a great lap, but like at Road Atlanta we plan to be racing
them the whole day tomorrow. The setup on the car last night and
today is very good. The temperature should be cooler tomorrow at
4:00 p.m. for the start of the race so we are looking forward to
a good run."
"Timo
did a great lap," said Alex Job, team owner. "Marc also
did a nice job; it is a credit to the team and engineer Greg Fordahl
to put a setup under the cars that allow both drivers to qualify
under the existing track record. Timo is poised to run for the championship
tomorrow and Jorg will do everything he can to support him. We will
go about preparing the cars and going about our race routine as
usual.”
The
final round of the ALMS schedule will be a history making event
at Laguna Seca as the race will end in darkness. The race will start
at 4:00 p.m. and end at 8:00 p.m. under the lights. The race will
be televised on a taped delayed basis on NBC, Sunday, October 17th
starting at 2:00 p.m. EDT.
