Alex Job Racing Pulls Cover Over Championship Season
Tavares,
Florida -- Alex Job Racing has completed another championship season
in the American Le Mans Series. The team won the GT team championship,
Timo Bernhard won the GT driver's crown, and Porsche won the manufacturer
title and Michelin the tire championship.
These
accolades add to the teams championships won in the ALMS in 2002,
2003 and their Le Mans victory in the same year. The team posted
eight pole positions and seven victories on the season. Winning
races at Sebring, Infineon Raceway, Portland, Mosport, Road America,
Petit Le Mans and Laguna Seca. "The schedule started out on
a high note with a one-two at Sebring," said Alex Job, team
owner. "The only testing we did was at Road Atlanta in September,
so we had to hit the ground running at each race weekend. We stumbled
a little after the long layoff following Sebring. Mid-Ohio and Lime
Rock were not our best outings, some car trouble coupled with some
tough luck with the pace car kept us off of the top step of the
podium. The competition in the GT field this year was the most competitive
that we have seen in the history of the series. Excellent runs by
the Flying Lizard team as well as Risi Ferrari kept us focused and
ready for each practice session and each race."
AJR
indoctrinated new drivers Romain Dumas and Marc Lieb into the team
and they took to the system right away. Romain Dumas was able to
put the number 24/McKenna/mail2web.com/Xybernaut/Alex Job Racing/Porsche
911 GT3 on pole in each of his four attempts at Lime Rock, Infineon
Raceway, Portland and Road Atlanta. This feat was no small task,
competing against the likes of teammates Bernhard and Bergmeister
as well as the rest of the GT field on tracks that the young Frenchman
had never visited before. "Romain and Marc did a great job
to get up to speed with the teams system and the tracks here in
the states," continued Job. "It was nice to see them get
the victory at Laguna and the four poles by Romain prove his speed
in these cars. Marc is a very fast and consistent driver, he did
a great job at Laguna in the rain to keep his focus and bring home
a victory. Porsche Super Cup champ Wolf Henzler also drive with
the team at Petit and played a strong supportive role in a podium
finish for the 24 car."
AJR
veteran drivers Timo Bernhard and Jorg Bergmeister showed why they
are two of the top 911 pilots in the world. Their consistency and
experience negotiating the ALMS traffic helped propel Bernhard to
the driver's championship. Bergmeister would have shared in the
season award had it not been for an illness that kept him from turning
a lap in the race at Sebring. "The season was not easy,"
said Bernhard. "The other GT teams have come a long way in
one year and the new Flying Lizard team came out of no where to
be a threat every weekend. The cars were well prepared for each
race, we just had to make a few adjustments to the suspension for
the conditions and we were ready to turn fast laps, a credit to
the entire Alex Job crew. Jorg is a good friend and I only wish
we could have shared the head table and the trophy at the banquet."
