Alex Job Racing Qualifies Sixth and Ninth
in GT2 at Road Atlanta
Braselton, Georgia - Alex Job Racing qualified
sixth and ninth in GT2 for round two of the American
Le Mans Series race to be run at Road Atlanta tomorrow.
Randy Pobst drove his number 24/Bell Microproducts/Pro
Vest/Alex Job Racing/Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, to a sixth
place qualifying position for tomorrow's two-hour
and forty-five minute race. Romain
Dumas, driving number 23 mail2web.com/Hyatt/Alex Job Racing/Porsche
911 GT3 RSR, suffered transmission problems in the last moments
of the practice just prior to qualifying and came up 30-seconds
short of being able to set a qualifying time.
In the practice leading up to the qualifying session, Romain
Dumas was running in second on the timing chart. Just three laps into his practice time
he lost third gear. "I was getting into a rhythm with the changes that
Timo made during the session and getting mentally ready to qualify. I
was going through the gears and lost third. There are four turns that
you use third gear in, so there really wasn't an option to try and drive around
it. Timo and myself will start from the back of the grid and drive hard
to make up for lost ground."
Randy Pobst with teammate Ian Baas will start in sixth position on the GT2
grid tomorrow after posting a time of 1:23.499 and a speed of 110 mph. "The
car is the best it has been all weekend," said Pobst. "We could have
used another practice to try a few more setup changes, so we have a little
more work left to do in tomorrow's warm-up session. The team has really
kept on top of the track changes with the weather and the car responds well
to every change. Ian and I are looking forward to a competitive race
tomorrow."
"Our hard luck continues," said Alex Job. "I had hoped we left the problems
back in Sebring, but it looks like it followed us. The team did a great
job to change the transmission in about 20-minutes, but we were 30-seconds shy
of being able to get in a qualifying lap. Randy and Ian have done a nice
job to get the 24 car working well and setup for the race. They seem comfortable
with the car and don't have differing wishes with the cars overall setup. We
will start the 23 car from the back and it should make for good television as
they come through the field."
Round two of the ALMS series at Road Atlanta event will be televised live on
CBS starting at 12:00 p.m. EST on Sunday, April 17th.
