Alex Job Racing Hopes to Conquer Mid-Ohio
Tavares, Florida - Alex Job Racing is hoping
to conquer Mid-Ohio next week in round three of the
American Le Mans Series race to be run on May 22nd. The
Porsche factory team has yet to win at Mid-Ohio.
Following a tough start at Sebring, the team was able to rebound in round two
at Road Atlanta where the crowd witnessed a dual for the lead between the Bernhard
AJR Porsche and the Liddell Panoz, seeing the Panoz come out on top after an
altercation in turn seven.
The second place finish at Road Atlanta elevated teammates Timo Bernhard
and Romain Dumas in the number 23 Hyatt/Alex Job Racing/Porsche 911 GT3 RSR
to eighth place in the driver's standings. "Last year I put the car on the
pole at Mid-Ohio! But in the race, after leading in the first hour, we had
a fuel problem and had to do an extra stop which cost us the victory," said
Bernhard. "The Porsche should be better in the up and down sections of
the circuit as well as the fast direction changes. We are looking forward to
our first victory together. I hope it'll be in Mid-Ohio. We'll be very competitive.
I'm extra motivated after Atlanta and the near win!"
Romain Dumas had a disappointing Mid-Ohio last year and is looking forward
to improving his record next week. "Last year we ended up with the car
in the gravel and lost a couple of laps, which pretty much ended our competition," said
Romain Dumas. "I really like the track; it is probably the most European
of the circuits we run. It has rolling terrain and great combinations
of turns and fast sections. I am hoping that Timo and I can give AJR
their first victory there next week."
"I consider Mid-Ohio my home track," said Ian Baas. "I came to grips with
the track last year, we had two race weekends in Formula Ford series and the
track time really helps with the 13-turns. The Porsche is a lot bigger
car and Mid-Ohio is fairly tight, the prototype traffic will play a role and
I'll just need to be patient. We are working with a new shock package on
the car so I am really looking forward to having a good run next week."
"I have driven about 50 different Porsches over the past years," said Randy Pobst. "At
Sebring I wasn't really comfortable with the handling of the car, it felt unpredictable. We
switched over to Moton dampers at Road Atlanta and we are going through the setup
steps to make those work and I am hoping for a break through at Mid-Ohio. Mid-Ohio
has a lot of transition and is a busy track. The car needs to have quick
response getting into and off of the turns. Balance in the Carousel and
Key Hole is a good bench mark. If you are good there you are going to be
good around the rest of the track."
"Mid-Ohio and Lime Rock are the two tracks at which we have yet to stand on top
of the podium," said Alex Job, team owner. "There has always been something
that has kept us from the win. Timo and Romain had a good race at
Road Atlanta and Ian and Randy are getting the car setup to their style. Hopefully
it will come together next week and we will have solid runs from both teams"
Round three of the ALMS series at Mid-Ohio Sportscar Course will be televised
live on CBS starting at 12:00 p.m. EST on Sunday, May 22nd.
