in GT2 at Infineon
Sonoma,
California - Alex Job Racing driver Timo Bernhard
put the number 23/Hyatt/Alex Job Racing/Porsche 911 GT3 RSR on
the pole position in GT2 for tomorrow's running of the American
Le Mans Series Grand Prix of Sonoma.
In 97-degree
heat and track temperatures reaching in excess of 132-degress
the young German factory driver needed just one lap to run a
1:34.263 and a speed of 98 mph setting a new track record. "We
have been really fast all week," said Bernhard. "The car is really
setup nice, so fast times are easy. Sometimes you just hit the
right setup off of the truck and we did here. I just did two qualifying
laps so we could have the maximum amount of tire for the beginning
of the race tomorrow." Bernhard is teamed with fellow factory pilot
Romain Dumas.
In the companion
AJR entry, Randy Pobst qualified sixth with a time of 1:36.107
to start from the third row on the GT2 grid tomorrow morning. "I gave it all I had. We will be able to race well from
there. I have no real issues with the car. It will be hot tomorrow
so we will need to run a clean race, steer clear of incidents and
maximize every opportunity on the track and in the pits." Ian Baas
of Indianapolis , Indiana is teamed with Randy Pobst.
"Timo and Romain have topped the timing sheet nearly every lap
this weekend," said Alex Job. "The Petersen guys got real close,
but we were able to hold the pole. They will be a factor tomorrow.
The 24 car will start sixth; we will have to have a good effort
from Randy and Ian to make up some ground. We need to get to grips
with what is happening with the 24 car. It was third yesterday
and we didn't quite find the same speed today."
The Infineon race will take the green flag at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow
morning and will be televised live on CBS starting at 2:00 p.m.
