Alex Job Racing Looking
for Sixth Win in a Row at Road America
Tavares,
Florida - Alex Job Racing has won the last five
races in the American Le Mans Series GT2 category and will be looking
to equal last year's win streak next weekend at the Generac 500
to be run at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. With their
win at Portland two weeks ago, Timo Bernhard and Romain Dumas have
assumed the drivers points lead in GT2.
In 2004 the team was able to win six races in succession; a win
at Road America will equal that win streak for the Porsche factory
team. The long 4-mile, 12-turn central Wisconsin road course is
a track that the AJR drivers fancy.
Bernhard and
Dumas driving their, number 23/Hyatt/Bell Microproducts/Alex
Job Racing/Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, cannot relax in the points lead. "We
cannot rest," explains Bernhard. "We just worked our way back to
the points lead; we thought it would be a few more races away!
But now the last part for the championship battle has just started.
Romain and I know that we are strong right now but everything has
to fit for the ultimate success. But I like competition that's
what real racing is all about. I think that Road America is a European
style track, which I like a lot. I'm quite confident we will
have another good result. You have the quick corners after the
start straight which are not easy to get the entry right and then
you have to get back to the throttle as early as possible. My favorite
section is the left hander under the bridge just before the last
turn, it's nearly flat and blind, on the exit you use a part of
the emergency road."
"Last year at Road America we had a tough day, finishing tenth," said
Romain Dumas. "I really like the track, it has a variety of turns
and the terrain is similar to a lot of tracks in Europe . It is
the longest track we race on and there is really only one slow
corner, turn five. It is nice to go to a circuit that has many
great high speed turns, like the carrousel and the kink that follows.
For a driver this is challenging, in Europe we are steadily loosing
these types of corner combinations. Timo and I are in the points
lead now, but we are still going to every race with the thought
of winning."
Ian Baas and
new teammate Darren Law are hoping to leave the tough season
for the 24 car in Portland and are looking to have a break-through
race at Road America next weekend. "In the final Z-tech last year
at Road America I finished fifth, so I am real comfortable with
the track" said Ian Baas. "I think the track is awesome, it is
long and has every kind of turn. I think the setup on the Porsche
that we are working with now will be really good there next weekend.
We have had a lot of tough luck this year. The team is working
hard on the car and we just keep having some difficult issues with
the car. The 23 car runs flawlessly, maybe we need to park our
car a little closer to that one. I feel we are on the pace now,
we just need to be there at the end of the race."
"Road America is a track that every driver loves to visit," said
Darren Law. "You have a lot of fast corners that are real challenging
and those are what you have to focus the setup of the car on. I
can feel the frustration from the team on the way the 24 car has
been running. I have a feeling that Ian and I are going to turn
it around next weekend and have a good run. He has experience there
and I was on the podium there last year."
"The 23 team has really rallied back from our DNF at Sebring," said
Alex Job. "The drivers have seemed to settle in and we have had
no real issues since the first race. The 24 car on the other hand
seems to be representing all of the bad luck for the team. We have
really put the performance of the car from a team and driver standpoint
under the microscope to see what is happening. I am looking for
an outstanding race next weekend at Road America for the 24 car."
The Generac 500 from Road America will be televised live on the
Speed Channel starting at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 21 st .
