Alex Job Racing in Must
Win Situation at Petit
Tavares,
Florida - Alex Job Racing drivers Timo Bernhard
and Romain Dumas go into one of the American Le Mans Series signature
events in a must win situation. The Petit Le Mans race will take
the green flag at 11:20 a.m. on Saturday. Teammate Ian Baas will
welcome new co-drivers Emmanuel Collard and Marcel Tiemann to the
seat of the number 24 entry.
By the time the checker flags drops and 1,000-miles, or 10-hours,
have been covered over the rolling terrain of Road Atlanta it will
be night fall. Bernhard and Dumas will be counting on the Alex
Job Racing teams stellar performance record at the Petit Le Mans,
with four wins in 1999, 2002, 2003 and 2004, to help their championship
hopes. The two are currently second in the GT drivers point standings
and must win the race and the five bonus points to have any chance
of taking the title in the last race at Laguna Seca.
"We are in a must win situation," said Dumas. "We
are hungry to win the championship that is why we are electing
to run the race with just the two of us. The Petersen guys have
put pressure on us all year and we have responded. We intend
to respond on Saturday as well. I really like the circuit, it
reminds of some of the old European layouts before the chicanes
came. I first raced the Petit Le Mans in 2003 and last year I
was on pole and we won. I hope we can repeat that effort this
weekend."
Bernhard mirrors
the thoughts of co-driver Dumas. "We have to
go flat out! I mean it is a race with more distance than normal
so there will be a lot of things happening. We're still in the
game for the title. If our competitors write us off then they are
completely wrong! We will be there. Romain and I are up for doing
the race with just the two us. We are both in good shape. I have
run Sebring twice in a row with only two drivers and it worked
fine. And for sure Atlanta is not as challenging as Sebring. The
Road Atlanta racetrack is great with its elevation changes. You
have very fast and also slow corners - a good mixture."
"We finished in fifth place here in May," said Ian Baas. "We
are already faster than we were in the Spring. The car is a lot
better since then and I have more confidence in the car than
I did then. With the long race, our chances will be the best
they have been all year. The new teammates are not really an
issue. This will make four different co-drivers that I have had
this season. Marcel and Emmanuel are professionals and have driven
many different cars. The team knows how to run these long events
and we will be looking to be around after 10-hours, hopefully
on the podium again."
"Timo and Romain
know what they have to do," said Alex Job. "We
put ourselves in this situation with bad luck at Sebring and we
have been trying to come back ever since. We need a solid run from
the 23 drivers and crew, some bad luck on the Petersen end wouldn't
hurt either. Emmanuel and Marcel are running for us for the first
time with Ian. They both have a lot of experience and will bring
another perspective to the 24 car that can only help."
Emanuel Collard, Porsche factory driver, and Marcel Tiemann, DTM
driver, will partner AJR regular Ian Baas in the number 24/Bell
Microproducts/ProVest/Alex Job Racing/Porsche 911 GT3 RSR for Petit.
The two are sitting in for Darren Law who committed prior to the
season to race for the number 45 car. For Tiemann the Road Atlanta
circuit will be a new venue to add to his resume.
The Petit Le Mans from Road Atlanta will start at 11:00 a.m. EST
and will be televised live on the Speed Channel throughout the
day.
