10-14-05 -- For Immediate Release

Alex Job Racing on Pole in GT2 at Laguna

Monterey, Calif. - Alex Job Racing driver Romain Dumas drove his number 23/Alex Job Racing/Hyatt/Bell Microproducts/Porsche 911 RSR to pole position for tomorrow's final round of the American Le Mans Series to be run at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Teammate Ian Baas will start his number 24 AJR entry from the fourth row in GT2.

The crew of the number 23 car worked feverishly all day on the setup of the Porsche 911. The slippery track conditions and changing temperatures kept the group tweaking the car throughout each session. By qualifying the temperature had dropped almost ten degrees since the earlier days practice. Dumas was able to post a time of 1:25.406 and an average speed of 94 mph, which is a new Laguna Seca GT2 track record. Dumas and co-driver Timo Bernhard still have a mathematical chance at the GT2 championship.

"We had a lot of oversteer earlier in the practice session," said Dumas. "We worked on it all of the session this afternoon so we could not do a simulated qualifying run like we usually would. The simulated run is more for the driver to get in the right state of mind as well as test the car on the absolute limit. I was able to go out and get clear laps and go faster than we have all weekend. The oversteer was still there, but not as bad. I think I ran a couple of my best laps of the season. We will race to win and hope the Petersen car has some of our bad luck."

In the number 24/Alex Job Racing/ Bell Microproducts/ProVest/Porsche 911 RSR, Ian Baas made his first appearance of the season in qualifying. The young Indianapolis resident put in a time of 1:26.704 good enough for a fourth row starting spot in GT2.

"I had some trouble getting through turn-nine," said Baas. "I think I had a 26-flat in the car, but I need to work on getting that last little bit out of the car in qualifying. The car is good, we have a race setup that will be comfortable to drive at speed. The track conditions have been changing and the new catch areas are close to the track and a lot of gravel ends up on the line, it will be a challenge in the race." Baas is teamed with his regular co-driver Darren Law.

"Great lap by Romain!" said Alex Job. "The 23 crew worked right up to qualifying and even a minute or two into it to get the car right. Romain went out and put some blistering times, I guess he is motivated for tomorrow. Ian had his first shot at qualifying and did a good job. The 23 guys know they have to win tomorrow and for any shot at the championship. We have the two cars going for the gold starting next each other so it should be a great race in GT2."

The final round of the American Le Mans Series will be run on Saturday, October 15th at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The race will be televised tape delayed on the Speed Channel starting at 1:00 p.m. EST Sunday, October 16th.
