ELKHART LAKE, Wis. - Cooper MacNeil and Leh Keen will start the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship Continental Tire Road Race Showcase from the fourth row in GTD tomorrow afternoon.
MacNeil (Hinsdale, Ill.) and Keen (Charleston, S.C.) improved their No. 22 WeatherTech Porsche from the last practice to qualifying. MacNeil had the controls of the black and white Porsche for the 15-minute session and turned a time of 2:11.836 for a fourth row starting position. The time was nearly a second faster than his best practice time all weekend.
"I turned my fastest lap ever at Road America in the WeatherTech Porsche this afternoon," MacNeil said. "I am pretty happy with the time and the car. I am not so happy with the overall position, but it is pretty tight right to the front. I am looking to have a good race tomorrow. I like the way the car is turning and we have it stopping pretty good. We have a lot of support from our WeatherTech family here this weekend down in Turn 5."
Keen likes the way the weekend has progressed.
"We have had a good week so far," Keen said. "We tested here earlier in the week and were able to fix a few issues that we have had with the car the last two events. This is WeatherTech and Cooper's home track. He put in a really nice qualifying lap, his best of the weekend. He is dipping into the 11s with a GTD car that is pretty good around this four-mile track. We have a comfortable car for tomorrow. We did well here last year getting on the podium. We will try and repeat that effort, hopefully on the top step."
Alex Job, team owner, likes the effort of the team this week.
"Cooper and Leh were able to work on some issues that have been plaguing us in the two previous races when we tested here on Tuesday," Job said. "We had some minimal rain running yesterday and we were able to get our dry set-up on the WeatherTech Porsche today. The guys like the way the car is handling and braking, which is key at this long track."
The Continental Tire Road Race Showcase from Road America will be televised live on Sunday starting at 3:00 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1.
